Foot Pain or Metatarsalgia

25/01/2018

The human foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 muscles, nerves, tendons, and ligaments. The cartilage in the human foot provides a cushion and allows for ease of motion between these various joints. The human foot lifts the entire human body weight up one inch with every normal step. Each step a person takes generates forces greater than 50% of a persons body weight. Activities such as jumping and running add even greater forces many times a persons body weight. During an average day, human feet support combined forces equivalent to hundreds of tons!

Another name for foot pain is metatarsalgia. Many causes of foot pain involve mechanical issues that cause improper foot biomechanics such as

  • Wearing ill-fitting shoes
  • Using improper technique when running, walking, or playing a sport

Additional causes can be:

  • Intense sports training
  • High or fallen arches
  • Trauma
  • Excess weight
  • Degenerative conditions such as arthritis

How Prolotherapy can help me with my Foot Pain

In Comprehensive Prolotherapy, the trained doctor injects solutions into the injured area which then attract the immune system cells. This stimulates the healing process which is commonly called inflammation. The inflammatory process that occurs after an injury, exercise, or Prolotherapy is the same process by which the body regenerates injured structures to regain health, strength and function. When a person injures their foot for instance, injured foot tissue releases substances that attract the immune system to the injured area. Little carpenter cells help build collagen, which are the cells that make up the ligaments, tendons, and joints.

Simply put, Prolotherapy stimulates the body to naturally repair ligaments, tendons, and joint structures to become thicker and stronger so that they can withstand more force. The sooner and quicker this occurs, the patient is able to resume normal activities without pain or limitation.
